How To Prepare For IPL Photo Facial (Intense Pulsed Light) | LaserAway

(pleasant music) – Hi, thank you for choosing LaserAway for intense pulse light, also
known as IPL photo facial. As leaders in the aesthetic industry, we want you to feel comfortable and secure knowing that you’re in excellent hands. In order to ensure you receive
the most effective treatment, I’m going to walk you through all of the pre-care
instructions you’ll need to know before you come in, as
well as what you can expect during the actual treatment. So let’s get started. Number one, avoid all sun exposure. This includes tanning
beds, incidental sun, spray tans, and self tanners. Wear sunscreen on the area
being treated at all times. Tan skin has a higher risk
of adverse side effects, and you may be required to
reschedule your appointment if you are tan. Number two, remove the following. Makeup, lotions, sunscreen, et cetera, prior to the treatment. We have facial wipes and face
wash available if needed. Number three, discontinue the use of topical irritants three days prior. This includes irritants
such as astringents, toners, tretinoin, or other
prescription retinoids or over-the-counter retinols. The reason for this is that these products can increase your skin sensitivity, and therefore increase the
risk of adverse reactions. Number four, take antiviral
medications as needed. If you have a history of cold sores, consider taking antiviral medications 24 to 48 hours prior to treatment. Although optional, this
medication is taken to prevent a herpetic
outbreak after your treatment, and must be continued
for three to five days. Please contact your
primary medical provider for this medication. Now that you’re ready for IPL, let’s talk about what you can expect during the actual treatment. The first thing you’ll do
upon arrival to the clinic is clean the area to be treated. Once that is finished, we will wipe the treatment area with alcohol pads. Once the skin is completely clean and dry, we will get you comfortably positioned on the treatment chair, and
apply protective eye shields. A clear ultrasound gel will be applied to the treatment area, and a
test spot will be performed to ensure the proper
parameters are being used for optimal results and safety. The treatment then
begins with the clinician placing the handpiece
over the treatment area, and performing individual
pulses in a systematic approach over the entire area being treated. While everybody’s
threshold for pain varies, IPL can be mildly uncomfortable,
but extremely tolerable as the flash lamp delivers
the treatment to the skin. Patients often report the sensation being similar to a warm
rubber band snap on your skin. Your clinician will assess your level of discomfort
throughout the treatment, so be sure to communicate
how you are feeling, so that we can make necessary adjustments. Once the treatment is complete, the clinician will place
a JetSetter Hydroserum cooling mask, to help
alleviate the heat sensation and calm the skin, and you’re good to go. IPL photo facials can be
treated every two to four weeks, and it is generally recommended to complete a series of
five to six treatments for optimal results. Now remember, safety is
our number one priority. So make sure to keep us updated with any changes in medications
you are currently on, or any changes in your medical history, as it may be necessary to
reschedule your treatment. For any additional questions, or to see other services that we offer, make sure to give us a call, or visit us at laseraway.com. And don’t forget to
