Plastic vs Cosmetic Surgery: What’s the Difference?

Plastic vs Cosmetic Surgery: What’s the Difference?

– Plastic surgery has two components, cosmetic and reconstructive. The reconstructive is usually taking birth defects perhaps,
or defects caused by accidents or cancer,
and reconstructing them, taking abnormal back to normal. Cosmetic, though, is taking normal, and making it better. Surgeons like us only do cosmetic surgery. A lot of plastic surgeons only do reconstructive surgery, that’s the other part of plastic surgery, and most plastic surgeons do a little bit of both. All four of the doctors here at Austin-Weston are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, that board that’s regulated and governed by the National Board
of Medical Specialty. Each of us does four or five times the number of face lifts,
breast augmentations, tummy tucks, then the average plastic surgeon who specializes
in cosmetic surgery. So, you have to be careful, and check the board credentials. There’s just greater variability in the board certification of
cosmetic surgery than there is in plastic surgery.
