Pros & Cons of Porcelain Dental Veneers- Houston Cosmetic Dentist Answers Online Questions

– We’re with Dr. John Barras. John is a dentist
in Houston, Texas and he’s agreed to answer
some online questions specifically related
to dental veneers. John with that said let’s
get into the first question. The first question
was from Anna. Anna asked how long does it
take to get porcelain veneers? And is it a one-time thing? – Okay Anna, how long does it
take to get porcelain veneers is a good question. It takes two appointments. The first appointment
we’ll discuss your size, the shape, the
color, all of that, and prepare the teeth
for the veneers, and place temporary veneers on. And the second appointment
we’ll deliver the veneers. Both appointments are
probably gonna take about an hour and a half and
there will probably be about a two week space in time. On some occasions
if there needs to be a faster turnaround time
with the porcelain veneers, then we can prearrange
that with the lab. Hopefully that answers
the question to Anna. – Okay, second portion of that
was is it a one-time thing? – Is it a one-time thing
as far as the veneers. Technology today is way better than it had been in
the past with veneers. Veneers in the past have with the bonding and
things like that, one could expect them to last
maybe 10 years in the past. Now they should last you
a lot longer than that. Each person has a
totally different mouth, totally different bite,
but we expect them to last way longer than the 10
years that was estimated prior to newer technologies
and developments. – Okay, next question
was from Mark. Mark says can anyone get
porcelain dental veneers or are they used for some
particular conditions? – Mark, good
question there Mark. Porcelain veneers are
for just about everyone. Most anyone could
use a better smile and that’s exactly
what veneers do. They give you the
smile that you want, the color that you want,
the size and shape, and most everyone desires a healthy,
prettier smile and so very few
people are limited as far as not being
able to get veneers. And the ultimate way to tell
is to be able to come in to the office so we could do
a consult and let you know if you’re a candidate,
but most people are Mark. – Okay, next question was I
want to get porcelain veneers but I don’t wanna have to go
to the dentist every month, how often do they
need to be maintained? – Well that’s a
good question too. Your natural teeth will stain
and discolor a lot faster than porcelain veneers so
you’re recommended to come in what your hygienist would
recommend you to come in not because you’ve got veneers. If your hygienist was
recommending six months, four months, three months to
come in for your maintenances, that would be the same. You wouldn’t come in more often just because you’ve got veneers. – Okay, and the final
question is from Carl. Carl said I heard once you
get veneers, you cannot drink coffee, red wine, or smoke. Is this true? – Good question Carl. Not true, not true at all. Most all my patients are pleased
that when they get veneers, they realize they don’t stain
like their natural teeth. You natural teeth
are more porous and if you drink
coffee, red wine your teeth will
stain a lot faster. Just the materials with
the veneers nowadays, they’re really really good and
resistant against staining. Great question Carl. – Okay, well if you have
any other questions for John all you need to do is post them in the comment section below. He’s agreed to actually
answer any of your questions you had so with that said,
thanks for your time John. – All right thank you.
