The LION KING Makeup Collection: Worth The Hype?! | Jackie Aina

The LION KING Makeup Collection: Worth The Hype?! | Jackie Aina

– Do you guys know that
(murmurs) to fold your tongue? Do you know that’s genetic? Hi guys, welcome back to my channel! It’s your girl, Jackie Aina. Jackie, Jackie, Jackie, Jackie. Jackie, Jackie, Jackie. Jackie, Jackie, Jackie, Jackie. Jackie, Jackie, Jackie. Out of all of these
celebrity makeup artists that I’ve met in life, in
the history of forever, Sir John is like the sweetest
and kindest and the finest. – (laughs) I mean (laughs). – If you don’t know who I’m talking about, Sir John is most popularly known
as Beyonce’s makeup artist. Out of all of her iconic signature looks, he’s pretty much done most
of them, if not all of them. The most popular ones at least. He recently got to collab and
launch a makeup collection with Luminess. The circle of life. (lions roaring) He launched a makeup collection with a makeup brand called Luminess. I feel like they were back
in the day known for like air brush makeup kits,
if I remember correctly. He’s got a full collection
of a shadow palette. Some lippies. There’s a highlighter, and
there’s also a sculpting palette. We’re gonna try it all today. So, my skin’s already prepped. I’m actually having a
really good skin day. I did some exfoliating. I did some minding my business, some drinking of my water, some hydrating. Today’s video is done in
partnership with UOMA Beauty. This is the newest and latest
and greatest and black-owned, black pride, Afrocentric beauty. I am so beyond proud of this brand, just from the moment that they launched to where they are now. Huge press push. They’re doing so well. It’s just great seeing a brand
like this from the forefront. First, we’re gonna prime. I always forget the name of this primer. It’s the hydrogrip primer. This is pretty much becoming
my end-be-all primer. When all else fails, I’ll grab this. So, UOMA Beauty, it looks like oo-oh-muh, but it’s pronounced oh-muh. It’s available at Ulta.com. I believe in stores, I believe
you can get this in stores, and it’s been out for a while. It is available at UOMABeauty.com, it’s also available at Ulta stores. Fun fact, UOMA actually
translates to beautiful in the Igbo language,
in case you didn’t know. A lot of times, people know I’m Nigerian, they’re like, “Do you speak Nigerian?” Nigerian’s not a language,
Nigerian is a nationality. There’s so many different tribes. I happen to be Yoruba. Founder of UOMA is from the Igbo tribe, and their language is Igbo. UOMA is Igbo, and it means beautiful. I’m gonna press some
translucent powder (laughs). I’ve done a lot of
smart things in my life, that wasn’t one of them. I’m gonna pat my powder into my skin. This is just going to, not only make sure that the
primer really does its job, and like I’m tired of this stuff, and these products clocking out early. This is gonna make sure that
it just stays nice and matte throughout the day. Don’t do this with a
brush, it just doesn’t. Mmm, it just hits
differently with a brush, and not in a good way. I went through a number of different UOMA
foundations to find my shade, but then I realized the
reason why I was confused was because the warm shades are actually for really warm, like red tones. And then, I noticed some of the neutrals and the cools were
looking a little orange. That’s because they have natural
color correctors in them, so when you put them on, they may look a little
more orange or yellow, but then they dry down
to your actual shade, if that makes sense. I do notice that some foundations,
instead of staying warm or staying neutral or staying golden, after a while they
actually dull my skin tone, they actually turn a little gray. I’m not gonna say which
foundation have done that to me, but it definitely, definitely is a thing. I don’t know if it has something to do with the natural oils, the
natural whatever, what-have-yous. This foundation like offsets that. So, the shade that I’m going to be using for the Say What?! weightless soft, matte, hydrating
foundation is Brown Sugar I want some of your brown sugar, T2N. (singing) I want some of your brown sugar. So, I start with one pump, I try not to get too
ahead of myself first. Okay, maybe one and a half,
maybe a little tiny bit more. The last time I tried to do a review and get right to the review part, y’all cussed me out and
reported my channel, so. I tried to switch it up and
get straight to the products, but y’all like seeing the
full face so here I am. I’m gonna take a little bit
of my FARSALI Skintune Blur, and just for a little
bit of extra lushness from this foundation, pop that in. We’re gonna go over some of
the stats of the foundation while I blend with my Lux. This foundation comes in 51 shades, which I think is incredible
for an initial launch. Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it. She’s not done blending yet, wait for it. Don’t overreact. This foundation smells so good. There is definitely a light
scent, but it smells so good. So, there are six (blows raspberry). There are six color groups
in this foundation range, and basically they call them Skin Kins. So the one that I use is Brown Sugar, then there’s White Pearl, which is for very light skin tones. Honey Honey for olive skin,
Bronze Venus for rich tan skins. Brown Sugar which is mine,
brown skin or like medium-dark, and then Black Pearl for dark brown skin. Basically, you wanna find
like what your category is, and then you would find
your level after that. It is definitely full coverage, a little bit more on the matte side. I noticed that once you blend it out, it doesn’t really budge. I got a giveaway, I got a giveaway, I got a giveaway, giveaway, giveaway, but I’m not gonna tell you all the info until we get to the end of the video. We in a hurry, we got to keep it moving. The concealer is one of my
favorite launches to come out from this brand. I’ve actually been using it, just not posting about it
because like I be testing stuff. I gotta give the full
seal of approval first. This is the Stay Woke concealer. I love the name, I love the branding. Like the whole UOMA brand
is just super empowering. So, I’m gonna take Brown Sugar T4 in the Stay Woke concealer, and do some color
correcting around my mouth. The finish is fire, and she’s
really thick, she’s gel-based, and she just gets the job done. The girls hate to see it
because she’s that chick. – No – [Cameraman] But you hesitated,
you thought about it first. – I didn’t hesitate because that shouldn’t
of been the question. – I choose this one because there’s a little bit of (squeals), a little bit of red in it. It just helps to further
cancel and correct. To do some highlighting, I’m gonna take the shade Brown Sugar T3. This one’s a little bit, wait no. Oops, I grabbed the wrong one. Excuse me while I transfer your call. Then I’m gonna go ahead and highlight. (upbeat music) The hell I’m smiling for? And I introduce to you, the sunset. (sings “The Circle of Life”) The five-head alliance, we meet at dawn. The shade that I used around my mouth was actually
supposed to be T4 Brown Sugar. My mistake, but I ended
up blending it out later, you can’t tell the difference. And, yes, I do let her dry down. This is actually one of the concealers that the longer you let it dry
down, the better it applies. Then, I’m gonna set it
with my Fenty powder in the color Cashew. Definitely gonna leave
a little extra down here for our shadow. Disregard my landing strip. We are going to move on to the collection. So, you can actually get
the entire collection for 250 dollars on Ulta.com. So, first I’m gonna get started by jumping into the eyeshadow palette and honestly, honestly
Aladdin takes notes. – (laughs) I mean (laughs). – I saw the looks that they
curated for this collection, I was already here for it. Shout out to everybody
who grew up on Lion King. Hey, where my peoples at? I’m really excited to see the movie, I got invited to the premier. Before even trying the palette, I feel like they got the colors right, like there’s jewel tones,
tons of transition colors. I wonder why they decided to do this many? Look I’m not against it either. I’m gonna prime my eyes down with some Two Faced
multi-sculpting concealer. Love this as a shadow base. The shadow palette, by the
way, retails for 42 dollars. It’s not overly high, it’s not overly low. I can work with that. I feel like every time I do a tutorial my nails match something, and
today it’s my beauty blender. Oh, when I hold my beauty
blender sponge, they camouflage, but look at this, look at this, look. You see it. What can I say, I’m a genius (chuckles). Ask about me. African Clay is just calling my name. It’s a reddish brown, auburn color. I’m gonna take that and start
throwing that into our crease. Okay. It’s not overly powdery when
I go in to swatch the color, which I don’t mind. Like I’m swishing and swirling, and I’m used to a lot of fluff, I’m not getting a lot of that yet. (engine sounds) Guess I’m getting NASCAR outside instead. So, African Clay, I’m just gonna start
working into my crease. You guys know I love
a good tri-color look. I’ll give you a crease, I’ll give you maybe a
little definition outside, I’ll give you a lid color, I’ll give you inner-corner highlight. Like, I’m basic. I stick to what I know,
don’t be judging me. No, I can’t give you a double
heart transplant cut crease, but that’s not why you’re here anyway. Just be honest with yourself. African Clay, I’m really liking so far. This is a really good everyday
transition color (laughs). I don’t know why, but
every time I wear red hair, I just feel like I have to throw on green because you know complimentary colors. The blue, Zazu, and The Meadows, I just wanna do something with these two. I wanna go in with King. (sings “”I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”) We’re gonna take that around
the outskirts of African Clay, just soften it out, make it look a little bit
more close to my skin tone. We’re gonna transition
the transition shade. So, just like around the outskirts, we’re gonna start softly
blending that out. I didn’t add a ton of color here, this is just a buffer, a softener, just to make it blend a
little bit more naturally. (record scratch) – [Announcer] One hour later. – Okay, but the power in my entire beauty room just went out, and it was a big inconvenience for me. Okay, so we’re gonna go back to King. Actually I’m glad I went back with King because these two colors look really good, really good blended next to each other. Oh, smoke it out. Maybe you can smoke it out, smoke it out. That’s nice! So simple, but so pretty, I really like these two colors so far. As I told you earlier, I was really feeling like these two colors
are just calling my name. Sire, you cute, but right now we gonna put you
on the bench for this week. Meadows is still that chick, so I’m gonna go in and, oh, I see. Yeah, I see what’s going on. (applause) I want to speak to your manager Meadows. Did y’all see that on one swipe? Like that almost (stutters), hmm. These shadows are a
little on the dry side, at least the mattes are. This is my first time dipping
and doing into the shimmer, and I expected the shimmers
to be a little dry too, but these almost apply a
little wet, kind of foil-y. That is a beautiful,
beautifully vibrant color, wow. So, I’m gonna pop The Meadows onto my lid, onto basically the center of my lid, and I’m gonna leave this alone. It’s gonna look un-blended,
but we’re gonna get there. Pride Rock, which is a little
bit of a darker crease color, a darker, medium-ish brown. If I had it my way, Pride Rock
would be a little bit darker, but it’s fine. I’m gonna pop that and stamp
that into my outer corner area. Oh, that’s a good color. Word, that’s what we doing now, Sir John? Okay. Okay, Pride Rock does have a
little bit of kick back though. Just a little bit, not
like noticeably different, but there is a little bit of it there. Pride Rock, I’m gonna start blending into my outer V area for a
little bit more definition. You guys know we love a defined crease. Oh, she’s giving us blend, she’s
definitely giving us blend. And then, I’m gonna blend around that. I’m not even adding anymore color, I’m just blending around it, making sure that she’s
nice and just melted. You really do not have to
wet these shimmer to get them to really give you
premium color payoff. I’m actually really impressed. Now, I will say that the shimmers do have that dry texture where you do
have to kind of build it up, like once you do. Like once a shadow was a
little bit on the dry side, I’m used to the color
payoff being a little dull, but these aren’t dull at all. Ren, this is gorgeous, Ren. Take notes, Aladdin,
I told you take notes. Now, Sir John, you may
be a zaddy or whatever, but I would have had no
problem sitting on camera and telling you guys if I
really wasn’t that impressed, but I’m not gonna lie,
I’m quite impressed. Well, the look as is, is fire because let’s be real green
does steal the show often. I want to take Zazu, Zazu
(speaks foreign language). This is the blue in the palette. It’s a kind of unique blue, I don’t know maybe they
were inspired by the water, maybe they were inspired by the sky blue, I have no clue. I’m about to dive it. Zazu, we’re gonna put in the inner corner. Oh (chuckles), John I see
what you’ve done there. By the way, who’s watching Black Mirror? No one asked, and this is off topic, but I’m like five episodes in and I really can’t
decide if I like the show or if I don’t like the show, but a part of me wants to keep watching, but also like not keep watching because I don’t really
care for it, I don’t know. Every time somebody’s like, “Watch this one, watch
this one, watch this one!” I’m like, “Okay.” I will say though, the newest season, the one that gets trash talked the most, so far is the only season that has the episodes that I enjoy. I’m just left confused, bamboozled, lead astray, hoodwinked, you know? Just, that’s just how I
feel about the show so far, I’m confused. I’m gonna take a blue liner, this is the 24/7 Glide-On
pencil from Urban Decay in the color Electric, and I’m gonna pop this into my waterline. Now that we got some
blue in our waterline, I’m gonna take Zazu again,
and put him down the bottom, but like only towards the
inner corner-ish area. I really like Zazu, she’s
cool for the summer, man. Okay, I said I was gonna skip Sire, but I actually lowkey do kind
of want to add some purple, so everywhere else along
my bottom lash line I’m going to dip into Sire
and pop that down there. Sorry, y’all, I gotta do this
with a mirror in my face, please excuse me. Y’all not gonna see it because my eyelashes are thick as hell, but oh, that is so pretty, oh my god. Okay, the eyes look good. We’re gonna get rid of the fall out. (engine roars) Who is using a lawn mower at 7 PM? From this collection, there’s
also a sculpting palette. When you first look at it, it’s definitely giving us
contour, highlight vibes, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m not
typically a fan of contouring because these colors, as you can see, are very ashy, very cool tone, but that’s what contouring
does, it adds shadows. I would rather a little warmth, so I prefer bronzers, but
we’re gonna try it out anyway because that’s why you’re here. On the Ulta website, this
also retails for 42 dollars. I’m gonna start off with Marula, and I’m guessing this is supposed to be like the light, medium side and then this is like the deep darker. The contour color actually
looks like it’ll work for my complexion. First, I’m gonna take Marula, which is this middle kind
of golden, beige-y shade, and I’m gonna use that as a
finishing powder for under eye. Oh, I’m not mad at that
at all, I’m not anti-that. And then, to contour,
I’m gonna take Heritage, which is the dark brown
shade in the palette. This is definitely, definitely
a pretty cool tone shade, so I do expect to see a five pound loss. This collection just feels very strong, like I feel very strong in
these eye shadow choices. Sculpting to the east, I’ve
been sculpting to the west, I’ve been sculpting to the
women that I love the best, I’ve been sculpting. And, no I did not forget about lashes. My lash glue is drying. I’m gonna be using the Kiss I Envy lash in the style KPEI121. (exhales) Only do that if it’s your own
lash, ladies and gentlemen. It’s very unsanitary to
do that to your clients. (laughs) Clock this lash though. Ugh, I love this lash. Welcome to the player’s club. Not with this Disney collection
on my eyes, nevermind. Welcome to Discovery zone. We’re down to the last couple
pieces of the collection, and we do have a highlighter. This is The Circle of Life highlighter, and there’s only one. The highlighter retails for 40 dollars. It’s a mid-tone from what it looks like. Golden Champagne, it’s got
a fun shift, it’s yellow. Don’t like yellow, and if you like more
cool tone highlighters, she’s not for you, she’s not the one. I’m just gonna go in
with a little, excuse me. Oh, that’s pretty. This actually, funny
enough, speaking of Aladdin, reminds me a lot of the
highlighter from that collection. They both have the same kind of undertone, that natural, golden yellow. I’m not wowed, but I’m not mad either. Pretty much everybody can use this. (mouth pops) (bottle spraying) I’m gonna cover my eyes for setting spray. We’ve got two lippies,
two liquid, one balm. If you know anything about me, you’ll probably already know. Oh, that’s just a really light, huh. (mumbles) This has like no color. I kind of like this though. It’s in the shade Hakuna Matata, So, we have two traditional
lipsticks, I love- (metal clanks) This is the shade Pounce, oh. And this is a, oh, (murmurs) pink. Very cool tone, very gray-ish. I’m actually really
glad we got some color, I’m here for some color. This is in the shade Lion’s Mane, and, by the way, these
are matte in texture. The lipsticks are 24 dollars, the liquid lipsticks are 24 dollars, the lip balm, now wait a
minute, now wait a minute. I don’t think this is 24 dollar
lip balm, but okay Luminess. Who are me to judge? Moving onto the liquid, matte. We have a matte red, and this is in the shade
Romantic Atmosphere. Oh, this is one of those
kind of mattes, oof. This is one of those really bouncy, really thick textured mattes. This next one, if you
know anything about me, you already know I’m
gonna pick this color. This is in the shade
Trouble, and this is a, oh. It’s got a little bit of pink, but you know what, because
my eyes are so bold and my hair whatever
you would consider this, like it’s pink back here, a
washed out red in the front, we haven’t gotten the lab result back yet so we’re just gonna move forward. Now, I’m gonna apply this liquid lipstick first
without liner, just to see is this a safe space, you know first. Oh, this is darker than
I thought it would be. These little frosted bottles really are trickery and witchcraft. Definitely darker than
I thought it would be, but like in a good way, oh. This is a missed opportunity, I want to start seeing
more nudes like this. You know what, this
looks bomb on the model, I don’t know what I was
expecting on me, but damn. This is so, ugh. I’m obsessed with this, this is so pretty. I actually really like this color. Oh my god, this color is so pretty! I want this color in a lipstick and a
gloss, now, immediately! Where’s the glosses, Sir
John, where’s some glosses? What if we got some fun, glittery, shifty, metallic glosses
for this collection, I would have been fine. Sorry, I just keep looking
at myself, it’s so pretty. That’s pretty much the
end of the makeup look, and all the items that
I have from the entire, yeah that’s everything. That’s the entire collection. Anyway, Sir John, I was
just basically saying how fabulous you are and
how proud of you I am, and congratulations again
on this fabulous collection. It definitely gets thumbs
up from me, overall. I’m pretty much here for it. There were a couple things that I feel like I can live without. You guys knew the highlighter. This is very like it’s
been done, you know? It’s beautiful. It’s been done, but if you just
want it for the collection, then get it, it’s
beautiful, it’s wearable. I definitely don’t dislike it,
and I prefer that yellowness. I would recommend this. I would recommend this for the simple fact that you have a lot of colors in here that you can use for the face, you can use these for
like reverse highlighting and like shading, you can
definitely contour with this. It’s a pretty dark color, it’s
definitely not going to work for everyone that’s chocolate, but I think it’s dark enough to where if they’re going to have
a dark shade in there, it would be something like that. They obviously have to cater
to multiple complexions, totally get it, fair enough. Personally, this is not a product that I would get a ton of use out of because like I said I prefer bronzing. I’m not going to be in theater, you know? Like when I think of contouring, I think of someone who’s
going to be on stage, someone’s who’s taking
black and white portraits. And by the way, what’d I tell
you about the foundation. Doesn’t she look good? Look at how she matches
perfectly with my chest. The shadow palette was fire. She definitely, I think we
maybe could have done without like maybe these two colors, maybe we could have got a ruby red. Those are my thoughts on the Sir John Luminess
Lion King collection. So, in conclusion, Sir John, we have decided to continue stanning. We been stanning, but we’re just gonna
continue with the stannation. UOMA Beauty’s gonna pick
three of you, not me. Please don’t harass exercise
about picking giveaway winners. And all you have to do is be following UOMA Beauty on Instagram,
of course, me on Instagram because why wouldn’t you be anyway? All you have to do is comment down below, oh, I got a good one, I
want you to comment below and tell me, are you
brows before foundation or brows after foundation in the comments, and we’ll just randomly pick someone. Like I said, please don’t
harass me about picking winners, please don’t ask me. They’re not gonna be announced, they’re just not gonna be announced. I’m just gonna contact you,
and you just gonna be the one. So, I won’t announce the giveaway winners, I’m just gonna put that out there again. Don’t forget, the description
box is where it’s at for all of the info you
need on today’s tutorial, and I will hopefully see you on the next video! (laughs) You thought she
was going somewhere, huh? You thought she was going to work? Ha, nice try, sucker.
