Trying a bunch of cute cartoon Makeup from Japan and Korea

Trying a bunch of cute cartoon Makeup from Japan and Korea

Hey guys! As yall can probably tell by my voice, I am feeling a lot better. I’m not quite at 100% yet, I’m but getting there! So in my BT21 x VT Cosmetics 2nd Edition Video, I talked about how sometimes, I think that companies throw a character or design on a product that isn’t necessarily all that great and then upsell it to fans, knowing that fans would buy it for the packaging. And I talked a little bit about how I didn’t really like that. But I should probably address the opposite side. Because sometimes, those collabs do work. For instance, Colourpop. I really loved Colourpop’s collaboration with Disney, both the Princesses collection and the Villains collection. I mean, I have both palettes right here. And I think Colourpop is a great example of a brand that gives you good quality makeup for the price that you pay. So, in Korea and Japan, packaging things in cute components and collabing with licensed characters and/or celebrities is a pretty big thing. So when I was over there, I actually went out and sought makeup that had licensed characters on them. And I picked up a few things that caught my eye. So first off, just to put this out there. A lot of the packaging of the Character makeup… it’s cute but it’s not like, super kitschy. Like, some of it is kitschy to a point, where the theming is super obvious, but some products are really subtle in the theming. I know a lot of collabs here in the States are getting to that point where like, Disney makeup or Sanrio makeup is getting really, really, really nice. Like, it’s not those kids’ makeup in those huge gift set boxes that you see during Christmastime. I mean, Colourpop, Dose of Colors, Besame. It’s like quality stuff now. And I can earnestly say that some of the components of the makeup that I got in Japan really impressed me. So I bought some of that makeup because the packaging was cute AF, and I wanted to see if the actual makeup held up. Alright, enough talking, let’s just dive into these. I’m going to zoom into my face in 3, 2, 1… Hey. Alright, so I already have primer, foundation, concealer, and contour on. Everything that I’m wearing right now I will put down below in the description box. So before I get into the makeup, look at this compact mirror. It is so freaking pretty! SO. PRETTY! And it has glitter! Waaooowww! I mean, it’s just so freaking sturdy and solid. So pretty. So first, I have this “The Little Mermaid” eyeshadow palette that I got from ITS’DEMO in Japan. They had a few other palettes, but ultimately, I chose Ariel because she is one of my faves and she had the most unique colors. And these are the colors. Yeah, see. I love this blue right here. I’m going to go ahead and swatch these really quick. Okay, so this first white one right here is a cream. That’s so pretty!! Okay, so what I’m noticing right off the bat, is that the quality of these shadows, I’m going to be honest, I’m terrible at swatching things and showing it to you on camera. If I were just to swatch it on my arm just for me to see, it would be a little bit better. I’m noticing that this quality is already a lot better than the shadows that I found in Don Quijote. I’m so excited to try this. Let me finish swatching and then we’ll get to that. Ugh, so pretty!! Okay, so let’s just put it on. So this color right here being a cream weirds me out a little bit because naturally, I would like to use that as my highlighter for my brow bone, but I normally would lay a transition color first. But since this is a cream, I would want to use that… first… So… we’re going to be changing it up a little bit. Omg, I love it so much already. And that was just the first shadow. It’s a little difficult to choose a transition color just because they’re all shimmers. So I will go in with the most neutral one, which would be this color. And we’re just going to hope for the best. Okay, so I tried to stay really, really light handed with this color. Like, you guys… Like, I’m so happy! It’s still quite pigmented, like the shimmer shows up. So since I’m not like packing it in, it’s a little bit more difficult to see that blushy, nude-y color that it is. Okay, so let’s just move on to the rest of the eyeshadow. I’m just going to quit talking and put stuff on my face. So I went in with this rich coral color as my base color, and then I’m using this dark brown as my crease color. I know this is technically Japanese makeup, but I figured if I could create a Westernized look using this palette, it would pretty much cover my bases in terms of Japanese beauty or East Asian beauty in general. And then I am using concealer to cut a crease, and then I am going in with this freaking beautiful turquoise color and putting that in my inner corner. And then lastly layering this gold color right on top of that, to just blend and bring everything together. You guys, I don’t– like I seriously… have no words right now. Like this… I know seems a little bit on the crazy side, but this is what I wanted. This is the makeup that I wanted to find in Japan. Like I don’t– I don’t even know– I don’t know what to say. This makes me so freaking happy. I mean, I can sit here blubbering like an idiot for the next three hours, at like, how surprised I am that these turned out the way that they did, but we’re just going to go ahead and move on. Okay. So, I love Sailor Moon. And Sailor Moon herself will forever be my favorite Sailor Scout. Like, ever. I think she’s absolutely hilarious. But my second favorite Sailor Scout is Mars, so I got this Sailor Mars liquid eyeliner. And let me tell you why I skipped over the Moon eyeliner to get the Mars one. And simply, it was because Sailor Moon’s eyeliner was black. And that day, I was feeling really, really, really adventurous. This eyeliner is red, and I kind of just wanted to try it out. But if I were to be honest, I kind of wish I just got both. So, yeah, this is the packaging. It’s super cute. Let’s just go ahead and break into it and see if it holds up. SO. FREAKING. CUTE. Oh, it’s like a dark red! What I’m finding difficult about this eyeliner is that it seems to be drying up as I’m applying it. I don’t know if it’s picking up particles from the eyeshadow or something, but I’m having to use a lot of pressure and strokes to get the liner out of the pen and onto my eye. Um… you know, honestly? It’s like, a really nice plum color with hints of brown in it. But I think for my eyeshadow look, I would prefer something a little darker. So I’m just going to take a black liner, and maybe create like, a dimensional effect with my liner. Oh yeah, I really like that! You can see the difference. This is with the black liner, and this is without. And you can still see a hint of that brownish-plum color. You know you guys, I’ve been playing with Japanese and Korean Beauty for a while, and I feel like after so many disappointments… like, I’m two-for-two right now. Like, I’m so freaking happy about this eyeshadow and this eyeliner. Like, I am at a loss for words. Let’s just see if the streak continues. I went ahead and did my brows, as well as curl my lashes and I applied a super thin layer of mascara, just to have something that will hold my curl. So I’m going to go in with, ugh, these are so cute, with these super cute Minnie Mouse eyelashes, These are the Romantic Minnie eyelashes in Sweet Eye. Comparing these to the Dose of Colors Minnie Mouse lashes, Um, these are a little bit more on the natural looking side. I was trying to find some in Japan that were even more dramatic, but to be honest, these seem pretty dramatic by Korean beauty and Japanese beauty standards. Alright, so lashes are on, and you guys, like… Okay, so let me show you guys these lashes close up. If you can kind of see, they’re a little bit more dramatic on like, the outside here. And then they’re a little thinner here on lie, the inner corners. Just so that it gives you that more natural look because your lashes in your inner corners are a little bit more sparse. And it gets dramatic as it gets flared out. And… like, it does! It looks dramatic and natural at the same time. I’m 3-for-3 now; I have about three more products left to try. And I mean, it can’t all be good right? There’s no way. Alright, so next is blush. So I actually didn’t find this in Japan. I found this in Korea. But Gudetama is Japanese. And this is partnered with the brand, Holika Holika. So I’m going to open this up. Omg, this is so freaking cute. This tape right here is like, a strip of bacon. I almost don’t want to peel it off. Alright, so when you open it up… This is the cushion. OMG, that is so freaking cute! You know what, I really don’t want to spoil this, so I’m just going to use my brush. The camera doesn’t really pick up how… I mean, honestly, it is very in-your-face. So… lighthanded. Like, I went in so gently, to pick up some of this color, and I mean, I can see it very clearly. Let me just pack on a little bit more. Dude, am I just getting lucky? For highlighter, I’m going to go in with this Ariel eyeshadow palette and I’m going to use that gold color that I used earlier. OO. GURL. Last but not least, lips. Since we are doing character makeup, I could easily go back in with this BT21 Lip Palette. Yall, to be honest, I know I kind of ripped VT Cosmetics a new one in that video, and this palette honestly IS expensive. It was like, more than $30. And for a lip palette, to me, that is pretty expensive. But I actually really, really, really like this. Don’t think that I’m just complimenting everything that I used today just in spite of VT Cosmetics, because that’s really not it. There were a lot of products that I genuinely liked, including this. This is actually my everyday lip palette right now. But, since I wanted to try new things… OMG. These are the Sailor Moon Cutie Moon Rod Lip Creams, and I have two of them and HOW FREAKING CUTE ARE THESE?! Okay, so I have two of them. I don’t know what they’re called. They look like they’re in different colors, like this one seems a little bit more pink, and this one seems a little bit more coral. So we’ll just go ahead and swatch both of them. Oh, I guess they’re more like, lip balms? Like Chapstick? I thought they were like, lip colors. Let me just go ahead and swatch and see if it comes out to be more than just that. Nope, definitely just Chapstick. So, I don’t know if you can see. You can’t see it. Yep, just Chapstick. Which, it’s cool. That’s fine. A lip balm is cool. I wouldn’t call it a fail necessarily, except on my part for not knowing Japanese, and failing to understand that this is Chapstick. I guess we will get to dive into this VT Cosmetics x BT21 2nd Edition Lip Palette. I’m just going to go ahead and slap some stuff on and I will see you guys in a little bit for my final thoughts. Um, yeah, so final thoughts. I’m genuinely impressed with everything that I tried today. Of course, the Sailor Moon lip balms kind of caught me by surprise. The packaging – super, super, super cute. I just kind of expected them to be lipsticks or liquid lips or lip tints or whatever. Aside from that, we’ll just go in order. Dude, this mirror. I know it’s technically not a makeup product that I put on my face. But like this, it’s a heavy mirror. THIS. THIS? Is exactly what I was looking for in Japan. And of course, maybe my search was narrowed because I was shopping at Don Quijote, but I kind of expected that Don Quijote would at least have something I could choose from and I honestly didn’t even have much of that, in terms of eyeshadow palettes. I didn’t want to buy singles because that’s a lot. The color is there, the pigment is there, it’s super easy to blend. I cannot say enough good things about this palette. Except! Okay, I guess I can say one not-good thing. There is a lot of fallout, honestly. But I guess I’m willing to look past that because it’s very unique. So this eyeliner. For some reason, I thought that it was like, red. But it definitely is more of a plum color, and like I said, I think if I was just wearing it on its own, or if I was wearing a super, super, super light eyeshadow, and like, not this whole thing, then this on its own would have been great. But I basically added a second layer of eyeliner underneath that was black, so I have this plum color on top, and genuinely guys, I need somewhere to go. I need to go grocery shopping, or go out and sit on a bench, or something, because people need to see this. Okay, so the lashes, also great. Super natural and dramatic at the same time. I don’t know how to explain it. The Gudetama blush, same thing. A little bit goes a long way. And yeah, that is it for my character makeup review and first impressions. If you guys enjoyed this video, don’t forget to hit the thumbs up button. Barring me doing something dumb again like leaving my Macbook charger at work, I try to post a video every Monday and Thursday, so don’t forget to subscribe. Thank you guys so much for watching!
