What’s Different About Cosmetic Surgery?

Maria is considering cosmetic
surgery and has just had her consultation with the surgeon
performing the procedure. Her partner, John, has been supportive
from the start. – How did it go with the surgeon?
– Very useful. He brought up possible risks I never considered. And we
talked about aftercare… Maria and John discuss the
procedure, likely results, possible risks and complications, recovery,
what is and isn’t covered in terms of aftercare and all the planned
and potential costs. – Yeah, that’s a lot to think
about… Are you sure this is the right time for the surgery?
– Well, I know there are risks with any surgery, I really do have to
think about whether it’s right for me now and what would I do if it
doesn’t go according to plan. – Would the NHS be able to help you?
– The NHS will only help if there are serious complications needing
emergency or life saving treatment. I may be able to go back to the
same surgeon and hospital for further surgery, but there may be
an additional cost. I’m not sure we can afford this…
– You know I’m here for you, let’s look at possible scenarios and what
to do if there are complications or re-operation costs. We’ll work it
out… it’s a big decision and you have to be completely happy with
the surgeon, the procedure and the hospital.
– Thanks so much John.
